Gardens of the Rose also known as the Royal National Rose Society Gardens is the site of thousands of extensive varieties of roses from all over the world. The site is also the headquarters of the Royal National Rose Society governing most of the gardens in St. Albans. History of the Garden:
Gardens of the Rose was established 50 years ago by Mary, the Royal Princess who happened to be the patron of the society during that time. Mary was the royal princess and Countess of Harewood, she was a prominent member of the British Royal Family. In fact, she was the only daughter (3rd Child) of King George V and Queen Mary. Mary was quite different from other royal family members as she had light-heart and seen everything with love and care. She had also been privileged to become the patron of the Royal Society due to her horticulturist nature and admiration for roses.
Royal National Rose Society:
The Royal National Rose Society came into being in 1876 and its one of the largest and oldest specialist plant societies in the world. The primary purpose of forming the rose society was to encourage all roses lovers and nature admirers to develop their appreciation more by collecting them. At present, the headquarters of the society lies in a village of Chiswell Green, situated south of St Albans, Hertfordshire, UK. The society has also been affiliated with several international rose and horticultural communities.

Gardens of the Rose had undergone revamping and rebuilding in 2006 to expand the region by bringing improvement and more rose varieties. However, you may not find this place by the name of Gardens of the Rose as it was historically known as the Royal National Rose Society’s Gardens. Sadly, Gardens of the Rose went for permanent close on 15th of March, 2017. One of the former employees revealed in an interview with BBC that the administration of the garden already had to severe financial instability and that this decision is merely a surprise to them. Today, people no longer have access to this beautiful heaven of roses as it is closed for an indefinite time.
